Charthurst Green, Kent, 1966. Pauline Cox accompanies Mike Robins to a village cricket match in which he is playing, but becomes bored and wanders away. She fetches up at the local railway halt, where she is first entertained to tea by the garrulous, hunchbacked station keeper, then upset by the intrusion of the latter's assistant Ewen, who proceeds to kill a rabbit in her presence. 一个阴险的小车站驼背售票员，应该是因残疾，受歧视，油滑变态；另一个神经兮兮的杀人者，是个孤儿，我想他的童年一定很惨，以至于他自闭暴虐，杀死女孩后，他向女孩尸体表白，看得人挺心酸的。
