The artistry, triumph and lifelong friendship of the great cinematographers Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Zsigmond. With film school equipment, they shoot the Soviet crackdown of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. As refugees they struggle in Hollywood, finally breaking into the mainstream with their pivotal contribution to the "American New Wave. Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Zsigmond were two of the best and most influential cinematographers working in Hollywood in the Sixties and Seventies; between them, they worked with the likes of Robert Altman, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Brian DePalma, John Boorman, Peter Bogdanovich, Hal Ashby, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Paul Mazursky, helping shape the look of some of the most vital films of the decade and showing new ways to balance beauty and realism on screen. Surprisingly, these two master cameramen were not professional rivals, but close friends who came to the United States in 1957, fleeing their native Hungary after Soviet troops rolled into the country to put down a people's revolution (which the young cinematographers helped document with newsreel cameras). After cutting their teeth in the United States shooting a variety of low-budget projects, Kovacs enjoyed a commercial breakthrough when he shot Easy Rider in 1969, and Zsigmond made his name a few years later with McCabe and Mrs. Miller and Deliverance; the two remained close friends and colleagues, and Zsigmond remains active today, while Kovacs stayed in the film business up until his death in 2007. No Subtitles Necessary: Laszlo and Vilmos is a documentary which explores the professional and personal lives of these two gifted craftsmen, created with their cooperation; it features interviews with a number of their friends and collaborators, including Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Bob Rafelson, Karen Black, Sharon Stone, Haskell Wexler and Tatum O'Neal. A documentary on Laszlo Kovacs and Vilmos Zsigmond, two men who during their youth chronicled the Hungarian Revolution and made a dangerous pilgrimage to the United States to present their work -- the first step in each man's path to becoming prominent cinematographers. 由James Chressanthis执导,纪录片《无需对白》跟随著名摄影师拉兹罗·科瓦克斯与维蒙·齐格蒙,记录了从1956年前苏联入侵匈牙利至今他们的生活。当时还在读电影专业的他们,拍下了前苏联入侵布达佩斯的情景,并自愿将镜头资料偷运出匈牙利。他们逃到美国,在好莱坞定居下来,最后攒钱买下属于自己的16毫米摄影机,开始电影生涯。 拉兹罗·科瓦克斯与维蒙·齐格蒙在上个世纪60-70年代成名,代表作有:《逍遥骑士》(Easy Rider),《五只歌》(Five Easy Pieces),《花村》(McCabe and Mrs. Miller),《激流四勇士》(Deliverance),《纸月亮》(Paper Moon),《第三类接触》(Close Encounters of the Third Kind)。那时,他们与众多知名导演合作,如罗伯特·奥特曼,马丁·斯科塞斯等,建立起一种全新的美国电影审美学,开拓了创新大胆的叙事风格。 《无需对白》是一段长达50年的历程,它描绘了两位电影巨人对现代电影形象塑造的贡献,他们之间超越想象的深厚友情,他们的殊途同归。该片于2008年5月22日在戛纳电影节全球首映。详情
