一个悲观观点，即使核爆后，世界最后只剩五人，也还在纷争，那个自私、残暴的人宣称自己是为了找到更多同类，而实施暴力，他为达目的，不择手段。当然还好，他的毁灭，婴儿的死去，揭示新的秩序的开始。

登山的人象征着人类的恶，贪婪、自私、自大、无知、懒惰、残暴、愚昧、歧视。死去的婴儿象征对旧时代的眷恋和执念，婴儿死去了，登山的人最终也会死去，宣告旧时代正式结束，一个崭新的世界开始了。结局非常柏拉图，像个寓言故事，人物符号化，镜头和剪辑似乎也有所隐喻。
