One of my personal favourites of the Sherlock Holmes cycle of movies starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. This time Holmes is trying to thwart a gang from stealing a priceless pearl. 原典改编，难得地高出原作不少，尤其是情节合理性上。有一个段落来自《临终的侦探》。杀手的形象被直接移植到BBC新版福尔摩斯第三集当中。

该系列目前为止最好的一部，新颖的手法和一快一慢的搭档，给这部剧增加了很多有趣的东西，最后依然是鸡汤时间，不过这次的鸡汤更自然、更深刻。

BR-7。很棒的改编，以《六座拿破仑半身像》为基础，融合了《格兰其庄园》《显贵的主顾》《临终的侦探》等故事中的元素。福尔摩斯一开头就受挫，与华生、雷斯垂德的互动很添彩。无奈一个小时节奏太快，故事之外无法过多展开。BR福干练自然，极符合对原著的想象。但华生笨拙得多余，而雷探长太美国化了。
