Following World War II, ex-Navy engineer Steve Martin (James Stewart) and his friend Johnny Gambi (Dan Duryea) come to Louisiana with dreams of wealth. They build an offshore oil drilling platform with the help of a large company, and find themselves in a lucrative business. 普普通通，其实很像西部片，石油勘探者就是淘金者，渔民就是不相信有金子的村民。安东尼.曼这次只是换汤不换药，构建了一个商人与渔民间的敌意，这是病根；良药就是石油喷涌的神迹和突然绽放的爱情。这是典型的好莱坞式叙事啊。
